A Business is Born:
After struggling at home and at school for years with ADHD-related
behavioral problems, professionals recommended to Leland Ancier
that he place his son in a residential treatment facility. At the
facility, Ancier’s son and others like him were put through an
intense behavioral monitoring system. They were checked every 30
minutes, and were awarded privileges according to the level of
performance they achieved over time. With the help of this highly
structured program, Ancier’s son was able to excel.
Upon completion of the program, Ancier realized that he needed
something similar, yet simpler, within their household. With his
background in software, he created EasyChild, a product Ancier
believes saved his family, and more importantly his son.
Ancier’s son is now in a top school, on the Dean’s list, and taking
no medication. He is still highly energetic, even now as a teen.
However, he has trained himself to focus his energies into doing
well in school, creating new friendships, and having a great family
life. Leland Ancier dedicates EasyChild, the software which helped
achieve this, to helping all families raise more successful kids
and enjoy a better life.
Background:
Ancier began writing computer software in school at age 14. He
wrote games using the BASIC computer language, which the students
used to play non-stop. He later went on to the University of Pennsylvania
where he studied computers and business. At the university, he
found himself more interested in his new Apple II, so he teamed
with 10 other students to start a software company. Ancier credits
the lessons learned from that experience as vital towards helping
him create his businesses today.
After his first company, Ancier joined Commodore computers around
the time they introduced the C64-- the first mass merchandised
computer. As a specialist in software, he worked with Ally and
Gorgano to create software for the launch of the successful commercials
for the company brand. This led to the creation of his own software
company, called Ancier Technologies, where Ancier wrote the first
spreadsheet software for the C64 in Assembly language.
Ancier Technologies went on to create the EasyWorking series of
applications, which were easy to use, inexpensive, but of high
quality for all three of the home computers of the day, The Commodore64,
Apple II, and IBM PC’s. Using the best technologies available,
Ancier then created Eight-in-One, which was the first fully integrated
suite of software for the IBM PC. This product sold over 3 million
copies and was bundled with many of the computers sold. He also
went on to invent ResumeKit, the first resume product, and Avery
Labelpro, the first high quality labeling program.
Ancier went on to found another software company, Atech software,
from which he created and marketed the first font technology product,
commonly known as the “Publisher’s Powerpak.” The product sold
over 150,000 copies and was bundled with Cannon and Epson Printers.
PC World gave the software the Best Buy Award, tied only by Adobe.
Over Ancier's career he has created over 30 titles, many of which
have won awards from PC World, Yahoo, and Infoworld.
Worldwide, Ancier has sold over 20 million copies of his software.
For building the fastest growing software company, Ancier was awarded
the honor of “Software Entrepreneur of the Year” by INC. Magazine.
Leland has always strived to create the highest quality easy-to-use
software with the intention of helping people. EasyChild is his
latest, crowning achievement, and the software is poised to positively
influence millions of families.
